Adelaide is set for a fairly settled run of weather before a wetter change arrives later this week, with showers building from Thursday and a damp run likely through the weekend. For most of today, conditions across the city will stay partly cloudy and mild, with a top of 24 degrees and only a slight chance of rain. There’s also a chance of morning fog about the hills, so early commuters in elevated areas may find reduced visibility before skies brighten a little through the day.
Tomorrow keeps that calm pattern going, with another partly cloudy day and a top of 24 degrees. A light easterly flow will shift east to northeasterly through the morning, and while a shower can’t be ruled out, Adelaide is expected to stay mostly dry.
By Thursday, things begin to change. Cloud will linger and showers become more likely, especially during the morning and afternoon, as Adelaide heads for a slightly cooler top of 23 degrees. Rainfall totals aren’t expected to be heavy at this stage, but it marks the beginning of a wetter stretch that looks set to carry into Friday and the weekend.
Friday is shaping up as the wettest day of the working week for Adelaide, with a very high chance of showers, most likely later in the day and into the evening. The city is forecast to reach 23 degrees after a mild overnight low of 16, with possible rainfall between 1 and 15 mm. Northeasterly winds will ease for a time in the afternoon before returning in the evening, and that extra moisture could make for a slick trip home.
The unsettled pattern doesn’t clear quickly. Saturday looks cloudy with a high chance of showers and a cooler maximum of 21 degrees. Light winds will keep things fairly gentle, but with up to 15 mm possible, it could be one of those days where Adelaide spends more time under grey skies than sunshine. Sunday stays in a similar lane, with a shower or two possible and temperatures again peaking around 21 degrees. Winds will shift from east to northeasterly before turning south to southwesterly during the day, which should add a cooler feel.
Looking ahead to Monday, Adelaide holds onto the chance of another shower or two, with partly cloudy skies and a top of 21 degrees. Winds will become southwesterly during the morning, keeping that cool late-autumn feel in place. Across the metropolitan coast, marine conditions remain relatively calm through the week, with seas generally below a metre, though Friday brings a 90 per cent chance of showers over local waters.
Elsewhere across South Australia, the broader pattern is being driven by a strong high pressure system near Tasmania, while a trough lingers across the northeast and another approaches the far west late on Friday. For regional areas, that means patchy morning fog through agricultural districts today, along with isolated showers and possible thunderstorms across the far northeast, extending south toward the Flinders Ranges.
Through Wednesday and Thursday, showers increase east of around Coober Pedy, with the northeast and some central districts the most likely spots to see thunderstorms. By Friday, showers are expected to spread more broadly through central districts, while the northwest stays dry. Rainfall totals to the end of Friday are expected to sit around 1 to 5 mm east of around Coober Pedy, with 5 to 15 mm possible across the North East Pastoral and central districts, and isolated falls up to 30 mm where thunderstorms develop.
Happy Tuesday!
