Police are seeking the public’s help in locating a suspect who they say stole a wine bottle from a Mattapan liquor store and then struck a victim Friday.
Around 12:20 p.m., officers responded to an unarmed robbery at Budget Liquors in Mattapan near 69 River St., according to a statement from the Boston Police Department.
The victim informed police that the suspect, described as wearing a black sweatshirt and black shorts, took a bottle of wine from a shelf and concealed it before attempting to leave the store.
A struggle ensued as he tried to leave, during which the suspect hit the victim on the head, police said.
The suspect then fled on foot down River Street toward Mattapan Square, an area officers canvassed without success, they said.
Detectives are urging anyone with information about the suspect to contact them at 617-343-2286. Tips can also be submitted anonymously via the CrimeStoppers Tip Line.
