Adelaide is in for a cool, cloudy and showery stretch over the next few days, with the middle of the week bringing the wettest weather before calmer and slightly brighter conditions return early next week.
Today, there is a very high chance of showers across Adelaide and a top of just 19 degrees. Rain is most likely through the morning and afternoon. Winds will also shift noticeably, starting from the northwest to northeasterly before swinging west to southwesterly around the middle of the day, then freshening from the south to southwesterly during the afternoon. That change will bring a cooler feel across the metro area, from the city to Glenelg, Elizabeth, Noarlunga and Mount Barker.
Tomorrow stays cloudy and chilly, with Adelaide forecast to reach 17 degrees after a morning low of 10. There is only a slight chance of a shower, but brisk southerly winds of 20 to 30 km/h will keep conditions feeling cooler than the temperature suggests. By Friday, the chance of rain lifts again, with a medium chance of showers, particularly in the morning and afternoon. The city is expected to dip to 11 overnight before reaching 19 degrees, with southwesterly winds turning southerly later in the day and easing into the evening.
The weekend keeps the grey skies around. Saturday is forecast to be cloudy with a medium chance of showers and a top of 19 degrees after an overnight minimum of 11. Winds will be light, so while it may look gloomy, it should feel less blustery than the back half of the working week. Sunday follows a similar pattern, with cloud cover hanging on, just a slight chance of a shower, and a top of 20 degrees.
There is a more settled turn as the new week begins. Monday is shaping up as partly cloudy and a little milder, with Adelaide heading for 21 degrees as light winds become east to southeasterly during the day. Tuesday looks like the pick of the week, with sunny skies, light winds becoming easterly in the morning, and a warmer top of 23 degrees. After several cool, overcast days, that late improvement should be welcome news for anyone planning outdoor catch-ups or a stroll along the coast.
Across the rest of South Australia, the same broad pattern is set to bring showers to the agricultural areas and West Coast district through Wednesday, becoming more frequent across the southern agricultural area later in the day. The far southeast could also see gusty showers, possible small hail and even the chance of a thunderstorm in the evening.
Thursday keeps isolated showers about agricultural areas and the West Coast, with scattered falls near the southeastern and far western coasts, while the north stays dry. Friday and Saturday continue that split, with only isolated light showers about the southern agricultural area and dry conditions persisting in northern parts of the state. Rainfall totals through to the end of Saturday are expected to stay fairly modest for most areas, though south-facing coasts could pick up 5 to 10mm, with up to 15mm possible in the Mount Lofty Ranges and the far southeast.
Regional inland communities also need to keep a close eye on flood conditions. Elevated river levels are continuing along the Warburton River at Poothapootha Waterhole, while creek levels remain elevated along the lower Cooper Creek around Innamincka. Many roads and access tracks are impacted by flooding, especially river and creek crossings, and travellers are being urged to check conditions before heading out.
Happy Wednesday!
