A heart-wrenching incident has been reported from Telangana, where a family was forced to transport their deceased son on a pushcart due to the lack of available transport.
The incident occurred in Shankarapatnam mandal of Karimnagar district, where a man identified as Yakub died following an illness. With no vehicle available and unable to afford a private ambulance, family members had to move him on a pushcart to their residence.
The incident has triggered outrage among locals, who expressed anguish over the lack of basic transport facilities, even in emergencies.
However, this is not the first such incident exposing the lack of basic infrastructure in India.
In January this year, a 35-year-old woman battling tuberculosis died at a hospital in Faridabad, following which her family was forced to transport her body home on a motorised pushcart for nearly 12 kilometres after allegedly being denied any assistance by hospital staff.
A video that surfaced online purportedly showed a man carrying the woman’s body on the pushcart, while his son was seen covering his mother’s face with a cloth.
In August 2025, a police officer in Telangana was forced to carry a dead body on a pushcart after an ambulance failed to arrive on time.
A tipper lorry collided with a motorcycle, resulting in the death of a 26-year-old youth named Mogulaiah. The police immediately shifted the body to the hospital for post-mortem.
Although an ambulance had been called to transport the body, it failed to arrive on time. Consequently, the police placed the body on a pushcart normally used for selling lemons and moved it to the Government Hospital, located half a kilometre away, to conduct the post-mortem.
