Traders Urge Punjab Govt to Revise Smart Lockdown Timings

Traders in Rawalpindi have urged the Government of Punjab to extend shop closing hours under the smart lockdown, citing financial losses and public inconvenience.

Key demands by traders

Addressing a press conference at the Rawalpindi Press Club, representatives of the Central Association of Traders of Rawalpindi called for:

  • Extension of shop closing time from 8:00 pm to 10:00 pm
  • Extension of working hours for hotels and restaurants from 10:00 pm to 12:00 midnight
  • Reduction in petroleum product prices

Concerns over current timings

Traders argued that existing business hours were set during winter months when evening prayers occur earlier. With summer in full swing, they said most people prefer shopping after sunset when temperatures are lower.

They added that:

  • Customers face difficulty due to early market closures
  • Employees finishing work in the evening are unable to shop
  • Businesses are suffering significant financial losses

Warning of protest

Traders warned that if their demands are not met, they may launch a protest movement across Rawalpindi and other parts of Punjab.

They urged the government to revise the policy to balance public convenience with economic activity, especially during the ongoing heatwave season.
