Workers’ Race draws 1,000 in Dubai

More than 1,000 people took part in the ‘Marathon for Workers’ Race at Meydan in Dubai, as the city marked International Workers’ Day through sport.

The race brought workers together for a community sporting event in one of Dubai’s best-known venues. Formed to recognise the role of workers in the UAE and encourage active, healthy habits across all sections of society.

Khalil Khoori, Under-Secretary of Labour Market and Emiratisation Operations at MoHRE, attended the event with Major General Obaid Muhair bin Suroor, Deputy Director-General of GDRFA Dubai, and Eisa Sharif Al Marzouqi, Director of the Sports Events Department at Dubai Sports Council.

The officials honoured the winners and handed out prizes and commemorative gifts.

Khoori said the UAE’s annual celebration of workers shows the country’s appreciation for their contribution to the labour market and wider economy.

“The workforce remains a vital engine driving development and a key partner in national progress.”

He added that MoHRE would continue working with partners on initiatives that support workers’ wellbeing and quality of life.

Saeed Hareb, Secretary-General of Dubai Sports Council, said the turnout showed the role sport can play in bringing communities together.

He said the event also supported the Council’s wider aim of encouraging all groups in society to make sport part of daily life.

Major General Obaid Muhair bin Suroor said the race reflected Dubai’s commitment to improving workers’ quality of life and supporting an inclusive work environment based on respect.

He said workforce wellbeing was closely tied to sustainable development and productivity.
