A slice of Ramsay Street history has found a new home, with Neighbours fans around the world driving a nostalgic auction to an impressive final result.

Following the classic Aussie soap wrapping for a third time last year, the iconic Mrs Mangel portrait (main picture) has sold for $19,500, capping off a week of spirited bidding and raising funds for a cause close to home.

Dementia Australia on Monday confirmed the one of a kind artwork attracted 104 bids across a seven day auction, with the winning offer coming from a buyer in the United Kingdom.

The organisation said proceeds from the sale will support programs and services for people living with dementia, along with their families and carers.

Dementia Australia CEO Professor Tanya Buchanan said the response highlighted the enduring global appeal of the series and its characters.

“We knew Neighbours was popular with fans across the world, but it’s been incredible seeing the reaction to the auction and the bids coming from so many different countries,” Professor Buchanan said.

Bids were placed from countries including the UK, US, Singapore, Italy and Denmark, alongside strong interest across Australia.

The portrait was donated by actor Annie Jones in honour of her mother, with support from ambassador Takaya Honda helping drive the campaign.

Jones later shared her reaction on Instagram following the result.

“Wow! Congratulations and thank you to the successful bidder. A wonderful result and one Nan would be proud of.”
