Countering the government’s claim that the Great Nicobar Island Development Project is being undertaken with “due diligence and careful consideration”, the Congress on Sunday said that the government had failed to address the concerns surrounding the project. It also called for a parliamentary review of the project.
Congress general secretary (communications) Jairam Ramesh claimed that the government, rattled by Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi’s “hugely impactful” visit, issued a clarification three days later in an attempt at “damage control”.
