Two people were killed in a tragic accident in Himachal Pradesh’s Una district on Tuesday after a speeding car plunged into a deep gorge and caught fire in Himachal Pradesh’s Una on Wednesday, police said.
The accident took place on the Bharwain-Hoshiarpur road, a stretch known for sharp turns and a steep downhill gradient.
Preliminary reports suggest a loud blast, possibly due to a tyre burst, was heard just before the vehicle caught fire, raising suspicion that a tyre failure may have triggered the crash while the Maruti Swift was in motion.
By the time police and fire teams reached the spot, the car had been completely gutted.
One body was found outside the vehicle, while the other was recovered from inside the burnt-out wreck.
CCTV footage of the incident has also surfaced, showing a black car speeding before losing control, veering off near an under-construction structure and plunging into the gorge.
Police have registered a case and launched an investigation. Officials confirmed that two people were killed in the incident. The car, bearing registration number PB-10-K-7531, is registered in Ludhiana, Punjab.
An Aadhaar card recovered from the vehicle showed an address in Tajpur Road, Ludhiana, though the identities of the deceased have not yet been officially confirmed, a spokesperson said.
Preliminary information suggests the victims had visited the Mata Chintpurni shrine for darshan and were returning when the accident occurred.
