Australian Star Loses His Cool During PSL 11 Eliminator

Multan Sultans’ Australian legend Steve Smith was left fuming during the 2026 Pakistan Super League (PSL 11) Eliminator 1 after getting cheaply dismissed by Hyderabad Kingsmen’s Mohammad Ali.

The veteran opener managed just 13 runs before Mohammad Ali removed him in the third over with Multan reeling at 28. Smith was first given a lifeline when Maaz Sadaqat dropped him in the same over, but the chance did not prove costly as Sadaqat held on to the next opportunity to send him back.

As he walked off, Smith appeared visibly upset and later smashed his bat in the dressing room after falling cheaply in one of the biggest matches of the season.

His early exit added to Multan’s shaky start in the high-pressure knockout clash. The Sultans continued to lose wickets at regular intervals, with Sahibzada Farhan, Josh Philippe, Ashton Turner and Arafat Minhas all departing cheaply as Hyderabad tightened its grip on the contest.

With the top order collapsing, Shan Masood stood firm to keep Multan alive. The left-hander played a fighting knock of 69 not out from 46 balls, hitting four fours and four sixes to lift his side to 159/9 in 20 overs.

He found brief support from Mohammad Nawaz, who made 19, but Hyderabad’s bowling attack kept striking at crucial moments. Mohammad Ali, Hunain Shah and Akif Javed picked up two wickets each, while Glenn Maxwell and Saim Ayub chipped in with one apiece.

But despite Masood’s resistance, the talking point early in the evening remained Smith’s angry reaction after another short stay at the crease, with the Australian star unable to make an impact when Multan needed him most.
