Residents of Ghaziabad’s Gaur Green Avenue society were forced to step in and fight a major fire themselves on Wednesday morning after fire tenders failed to reach the upper floors of the building.
Visuals shared on social media showed residents attempting to douse the flames using hoses connected to their homes in nearby towers, battling intense heat, smoke and panic as the blaze spread.
Visuals shared by senior journalist Ajit Anjum, who resides in the same apartment complex, showed residents pumping water from a nearby tower as flames engulfed multiple floors of the affected building.
“We are trying to douse it from the flat in front. The fire brigade vehicles that have come don’t have any ladders, elevators, or crates to reach the top. We can spray water from the flats above,” Anjum was heard saying in one of the videos.
The massive fire broke out in a residential flat in the Abhay Khand area of Indirapuram earlier on Wednesday, triggering panic among residents in the densely populated neighbourhood. Thick plumes of smoke engulfed the area within minutes as firefighters struggled to tame the flames.
According to initial information, the blaze erupted inside a flat and then quickly spread to nearby ones.
A resident of the society, Rohit, said, “Around 10-12 flats are gutted in the fire. Maybe there was some light (electricity) issue. I do not have full information.”
There is no immediate confirmation of injuries or casualties.
