A fresh controversy has erupted in West Bengal after a woman alleged that central forces raided her home and assaulted her, while also seeking that IPS officer Ajay Pal Sharma be questioned over the incident ahead of Phase 2 polling.
The complaint, filed at Falta police station in South 24 Parganas, has added to tensions in the region already on edge over recent political flashpoints.
In her written complaint, Monalisa Patra, a resident of Belsingha, alleged that on the night of April 24, people claiming to be from the Central Reserve Police Force entered her house without any warrant or identification.
“Some unknown persons forcibly entered my house They identified themselves as members of the CRPF. However, they did not show any official order, warrant, or valid identification documents,” the complaint reads.
She alleged that after entering, they assaulted her and her family. “They physically assaulted me and my family members, misbehaved with us, and molested me. This incident has severely affected our mental and personal security.”
CLAIMS OF VOTER INTIMIDATION
The complaint also accuses the personnel of trying to influence voting.
“They threatened us They tried to create fear and pressure us not to vote,” she alleged, calling the actions “completely illegal” and an interference with the democratic process.
OBSERVER’S ROLE QUESTIONED
Patra also raised questions over the role of IPS officer Ajay Pal Sharma, who has been deployed as a police observer in the district.
“The police observer should be questioned regarding the role of the forces deployed under his supervision,” the complaint said, pointing to possible administrative failure.
She has sought a proper investigation, strict action against those involved, and measures to ensure her family’s safety.
TENSIONS RISE AHEAD OF POLLING
The development comes amid heightened political tensions in South 24 Parganas, where recent days have seen protests and sharp exchanges involving the officer.
With polling approaching, the complaint has added another layer to the charged atmosphere, raising questions over ground-level conduct and enforcement.
