One year after taking Dillon Gabriel and Shedeur Sanders, the Cleveland Browns added another quarterback to the mix in the 2026 NFL Draft. General manager Andrew Berry decided on Arkansas’ Taylen Green in the sixth round, giving him four quarterbacks on his roster entering training camp.
Green, however, is an interesting addition to the group. His college numbers were not great, but he is easily the most athletic quarterback of the incoming class and showed out at the Combine. His natural athleticism has many wondering if he will switch positions to extend his NFL career, but Berry does not see that happening.
“He’s playing quarterback,” Berry said of Green after making the selection, per NFL insider Mike Garafolo.
Green wrapped up his five-year college football career with 2,714 passing yards, 19 touchdowns and 11 interceptions for Arkansas in 2025, while adding 777 rushing yards and eight rushing touchdowns. His highlight reel rivals the best in the world, but Green was far too inconsistent to be a top-notch NFL prospect.
Green was easily the most impressive quarterback at the Combine. He ran a 4.36-second 40-yard dash, a full 0.1 seconds faster than any of his peers, with a 43.5-inch vertical jump and an 11-foot-2 broad jump. Those measurements are equivalent to those of a wide receiver prospect, leading to speculation that he would be most effective catching passes in the NFL rather than throwing them.
The Browns made Green the seventh quarterback selected in the 2026 NFL Draft. He followed Cade Klubnik and Cole Payton as those taken on Day Three.
The Browns have had success with quarterback-turned-receivers before, notably converting Joshua Cribbs and Terrelle Pryor in the last two decades. However, it seems that if Green is to take a similar path, it will not happen in Cleveland.
