The UAE Jiu-Jitsu National Team opened their Asian Beach Games campaign with four medals in Sanya, China.
The team won two golds, one silver and one bronze on the first day of competition at the 6th Asian Beach Games.
Khaled Al Shehhi took gold in the men’s 62kg category, with teammate Omar Al Suwaidi finishing second to claim silver.
Asma Al Hosani added another gold for the UAE in the women’s 52kg division, while Shamma Al Kalbani won bronze in the 63kg event.
The result gives the UAE an early place on the jiu-jitsu medal table, with more bouts still to come.
Abdullah Salem Al Zaabi, Director of Marketing and Corporate Communications at the UAE Jiu-Jitsu Federation, said the opening results reflected the work put into the national team’s preparation and athlete development.
“The results reflect the strong support the sport receives from the UAE leadership and the success of long-term investment in developing athletes.”
The UAE will now look to build on that start as the competition continues in China.
