FRANKIE THE CRACK HEAD | Write Out Loud

FRANKIE THE CRACK HEAD | Write Out Loud

(My debt is to Mississippi John Hurt for the tune and the country blues style guitar on Stag o’ Lee)

Frankie was a crack head, everybody knows

He sniffed that powder every day when the chance arose

He was a crack head, that waster Frankie “Leeds”.

It wasn’t Frankie’s choice in this; he was introduced

To drugs by best friend Albert; it wasn’t self-induced.

He was a crack head, that waster Frankie “Leeds”.

Yes, Albert was his dealer, his handler you might say

He got young Frankie coked up each and every single day

He was a crack head, that waster Frankie “Leeds”.

And Frankie’s not selective though, it’s powder in the main;

He snorts his share of ecstasy, ketamine, cocaine.

He was a crack head, that waster Frankie “Leeds”.

Frankie’s main supplier was a Turkish gangland mob

But nonetheless for many years he still held down his job.

He was a crack head, that waster Frankie “Leeds”.

Frankie’s deals would go down at the Airport here in Leeds.

Where contacts would arrive with covert parcels packed with speed.

He was a crack head, that waster Frankie “Leeds”.

Eventually from too much use it addled up his brain

It rotted Frankie’s nose through over-use of crack cocaine.

He was a crack head, that waster Frankie “Leeds”.

His tragedy is commonplace – a sorry catalogue

That will destroy the faculties of any sniffer dog.

He was a crack head, that waster Frankie “Leeds”.
