Adelaide is heading into a warm and mostly settled stretch of weather, with sunshine returning for the back half of the week before a cooler change and the chance of showers arrives across the weekend.
Today, Adelaide will stay partly cloudy with a top of 27 degrees in the city. Any shower activity is expected to stay mainly near the southern coastal parts of the state and clear by mid to late afternoon, so the metro area is likely to remain largely dry. Winds will ease early before turning east to southeasterly later in the day, helping keep conditions comfortable into the evening.
Thursday looks like one of the pick days of the week for Adelaide, with a sunny forecast and a warm top of 28 degrees after a cooler morning low of 14. Light winds will become north to northwesterly during the morning before shifting northeasterly later in the day. Friday follows a very similar pattern, with mostly sunny skies, another top of 28 degrees and dry conditions continuing across the city.
The change starts to build on Saturday, when cloud increases and Adelaide sees a slight chance of a shower in the afternoon or evening. Anzac Day should still get plenty of dry weather, but it is worth keeping an eye on the sky later in the day as winds swing from northerly to northwesterly, then shift south to southeasterly by evening. Temperatures will again reach 28 degrees, but the wind change will set up a cooler finish to the weekend.
Sunday is expected to be the coolest day of the seven-day outlook, with a top of 23 degrees and a medium chance of showers, most likely in the morning. South to southeasterly winds will turn southwesterly during the morning, reinforcing that fresher feel across the city. By Monday, conditions begin to settle again with partly cloudy skies and a top of 25 degrees, before Tuesday edges a little warmer with a forecast maximum of 26 degrees and partly cloudy conditions continuing.
Across broader South Australia, the week is being shaped by a strong high-pressure system east of Tasmania, with weak cold fronts brushing the southern parts of the state today and again on Saturday. That means northern districts are set for mostly sunny conditions and above-average temperatures, while southern coastal districts may see isolated light showers today and more shower activity developing again on Saturday. Morning fog patches are possible in eastern districts on Thursday, while cloud is expected to increase across the west and south on Friday ahead of the weekend change. Rainfall totals are expected to stay light through to the end of Saturday, with up to 2mm about southern and western coastal areas, mostly falling on Wednesday and Saturday.
For Adelaide’s coastal waters, conditions remain relatively manageable through the week, with seas below 1 metre and only modest wind shifts expected. Even so, boaters should pay attention to changing winds on Saturday as north to northeasterlies turn northwesterly and then southeast to southwesterly by evening.
Happy Wednesday!
