One of Adelaide’s best-known Asian grocer names has landed in the CBD, with Dai Phat taking over the former Kim Wang site at Market Plaza.
Bring your trolleys and carry carts, because Dai Phat, which opened just over a week ago, is packed with all the go-to Asian products shoppers know and love, along with plenty they may not have discovered yet.
The sleek new venue, features rows upon rows of noodles, sauces, rice, spices, frozen dumplings, Asian veg, butcher meat, snacks, and specialty ingredients you definitely can’t find in a mainstream supermarket.
It has opened in the same location long occupied by beloved city favourite Kim Wang Supermarket. Its loss in 2024 was felt deeply by the community, particularly in a year that saw too many familiar businesses disappear from the precinct.
While Dai Phat’s look is a little more modern, with its red neon signage and grey slatted walls, the spirit inside feels familiar. The shelves are full of the same kind of speciality groceries, comfort foods and hard-to-find ingredients that made Kim Wang such a treasured part of the city.

The fridge section alone is enough to keep shoppers browsing for a while. From iced-tea, featuring flavours like manjo, green tea and lychee to aloe and other fruit based drinks, this shop might have every type of beverage. Think sweet milk drinks, probiotic yoghurt-style drinks, soy milk, aloe beverages, fruit drinks and canned coffees lining the fridges.
Then there are the pantry staples. Large 20 kilogram rice bags sit alongside with noodles of every base including instant noodles, pho and rice noodles, udon, ramen, vermicelli and glass noodles and other pantry staples.
Frozen foods were plentiful, with prawns, tail-on and peeled shrimp, pork strips and other cooking staples ready for everything from traditional dishes to comforting soups. For something a little fresher, shelves are lined with fruit and berries alongside a range of vegetables, including familiar staples and Asian greens.
Shoppers will also find plenty of Asian sweet treats and snacks, from Pocky sticks and Hello Panda biscuits to prawn crackers, rice crackers, mochi and other nostalgic favourites. We even saw some ice cream cone selections, and a personal fav mochi covered ice-cream bites!
For city workers, home cooks, international students and anyone who loves discovering new ingredients, the new Dai Phat is set to become a go-to stop in Market Plaza.
Dai Phat Asian Grocer are now open in the Market Plaza, which neighbours the Adelaide Central Markets. The iconic market is set to double in size as part of the $400 million Market Square development, introducing a vibrant mix of new food, drink and specialty retail experiences.
