A second main trailer for the upcoming Goodbye, Lara (Sayonara Lara) has been revealed.
The new look at The Little Mermaid-inspired TV anime has scenes of the titular mermaid Lara’s life in modern-day Japan, appearances from various human characters, and an ominous scene that cuts to a “to be continued” screen. Also previewed in the trailer is the newly announced opening song “Sayonara Lara” by Ikimonogakari.
Additionally, it was announced that the cast will include Tomohiro Ono as Yoshiya Otsu, Mitsuaki Madono as Makoto Otsu, Nanae Sumitomo as Ema Otsu, and Masaki Terasoma as Rowan.
July is the broadcast premiere window for the original anime. Its US premiere will take place at Anime Central 2026.
Goodbye, Lara is the 15th anniversary project of animation production studio Kinema Citrus. It is also the series directorial debut of Shiga native Takushi Koide (assistant director, revue costume designer, weapon designer, and more on Revue Starlight and its movie sequel).
