MasterChef Australia has pulled off a right royal coup, with news breaking late this afternoon of Meghan Markle stepping into the famous kitchen for a surprise guest judge appearance.
The Duchess of Sussex, who is currently visiting down under with husband Prince Harry, filmed her upcoming segment today which was kept under wraps from contestants.
The surprise cameo adds to the show’s rare royal history, following King Charles III visiting the kitchen during his 2015 Australian tour, as well as showbiz royalty Katy Perry and several well renowned chefs over the years.

TV Blackbox understands Meghan’s surprise appearance was only confirmed earlier this week, with her fee rumoured to be around US$250,000, roughly AUD $380,000.
Notably absent from filming today was chef and judge Andy Allen, who is currently on paternity leave from the cooking competition series, which premieres its eighteenth season this Sunday.

Meghan joins a prestigious list of guest judges this season, from returning legends like Maggie Beer, Curtis Stone and Rick Stein, to social media powerhouses Victoria Minell (@RecipesbyVictoria), Vincent Yeow Lim (@DimSimLim), and Lily Huynh (@BitesWithLily), and celebrity food lovers Robert Irwin, and Jimmy and Jane Barnes. MasterChef alumni legends will also be represented by Justine Schofield, Sarah Todd and Marion Grasby.
