Rare 0K LEGO collection heads to auction with bidding starting at just

Lovers and collectors of LEGO are in for a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, as one of Australia’s most impressive private LEGO collections prepares to go under the hammer. The extraordinary collection, estimated to be worth up to a quarter of a million dollars, is being auctioned through Lloyds Auctions, with bidding starting at just $1.

Built over decades by a passionate private collector, the collection features more than 2,000 sets and over one million individual pieces. Most items are brand-new and factory-sealed, making them a dream acquisition for enthusiasts and investors. With approximately two-thirds of the sets now retired, the auction presents a rare chance to secure highly sought-after and hard-to-find pieces.

“This is the largest single LEGO collection we’ve ever brought to auction,” shared Lee Hames, Chief Operations Officer at Lloyds Auctions. “The sheer scale is remarkable, but what really sets it apart is the concentration of sealed, retired and highly sought‑after sets. You simply don’t see collections of this calibre come to market.”

The collection reads like a hall of fame for LEGO fans, spanning some of the brand’s most iconic and collectable themes. Among them are Star Wars, Batman, Harry Potter, Marvel, Disney and Racers, with many of the Star Wars sets now considered exceptionally rare and steadily increasing in value worldwide.

Leading the sale is the original Star Wars Ultimate Collector Series (UCS) Star Destroyer, a flagship piece expected to fetch tens of thousands of dollars. Other standout sets include The Simpsons House, the Kwik-E-Mart, and the Queen Anne’s Revenge pirate ship, each highly coveted by collectors across the globe.

“With LEGO now firmly established as a serious collectable category, demand for quality retired sets has never been stronger,” added Lee. “This collection delivers exactly what the global LEGO market is chasing.”

Interest is already building both locally and internationally, with the collection being released across seven unreserved online auctions. Each auction will close daily from April 20th, offering bidders multiple opportunities to secure a piece of LEGO history.

Large-scale private collections of this magnitude rarely reach the public market, particularly without reserves. For seasoned collectors, fans, and investors, this remarkable auction represents an opportunity to snap up rare treasures.
