West Indies pace legend Courtney Walsh has praised Pakistan’s fast-bowling tradition, saying the country continues to produce top-quality pacers, with Shaheen Afridi standing out among the current crop.
Speaking during the Pakistan Super League (PSL 11), Courtney Walsh said Pakistan’s conditions and strong skill development have helped create great fast bowlers across generations, from past legends to today’s emerging names.
The RawalPindiz bowling coach singled out Shaheen Afridi for his discipline, attitude, and consistent execution, saying the Lahore Qalandars captain carries himself well and takes pride in performing for Pakistan as well as in franchise cricket.
Walsh also praised Pakistan’s pace depth, naming Naseem Shah and Mohammad Wasim Jr. among the bowlers keeping that tradition alive.
The former West Indies great said modern T20 cricket remains tough for fast bowlers because the format heavily favors batters, but he was pleased to see pacers still making an impact through skill, control, and consistency.
Walsh added that young fast bowlers must stay disciplined, work hard, and keep polishing their core skills, stressing that consistency remains the key to success.
Walsh’s RawalPindiz will be in action against fellow debutants Hyderabad Kingsmen on April 16 as they look to get their PSL 11 campaign off and running with a win. Meanwhile, Lahore Qalandars will take on Quetta Gladiators on April 17.
