Longtime Red Sox broadcaster and Baseball Hall of Fame honoree Joe Castiglione says he’s feeling well after being treated for cancer, and he plans to return to the radio booth to call a handful of games this season.

Castiglione, who turned 79 in March, said in a telephone conversation Sunday night that he had surgery for sarcoma in his right leg on Oct. 1. His treatment included radiation, he said.

“Everything is fine now,” said Castiglione. “I just had scans and they’re clean, so as far as I know, I’m cancer-free. Everything is good.”

Castiglione, who was the 2024 recipient of the Ford C. Frick Award, presented annually to a broadcaster who has made “major contributions to baseball,” retired that same year after 42 seasons as the Red Sox’ radio play-by-play voice.

But he’s maintained a role as a Red Sox ambassador, and this spring he called approximately 10 Red Sox games from Fort Myers, Fla., where he lives from January to April with his wife, Jan.

Some of the details are still being worked out, but Castiglione will return to the Red Sox booth for 10 or so games this season, most likely home games on Sunday afternoons.
