Adelaide is in for a fairly settled run of autumn weather this week, with cool mornings, a few patches of fog, and plenty of sunshine on the way before a slightly cloudier finish to the weekend. For most of the next seven days, conditions across the city look mild and calm.
Today stays partly cloudy across Adelaide, with a slight chance of a shower this morning and some fog possible around the northern suburbs early on. Light winds will keep things fairly gentle, and the city is heading for a top of 21 degrees. That cool start continues into tomorrow, when morning fog is again possible before the cloud clears out for a sunny afternoon. After a chilly low of 10 degrees, Adelaide will warm to 23.
Thursday will see sunshine forecast across the city, with temperatures again reaching 23 degrees. Winds will shift through the day, starting north to northeasterly before turning northwest to southwesterly, then easing later on. It should still feel comfortable for most of the day, with no major weather interruptions expected.
Friday brings a touch more cloud, though Adelaide is still unlikely to see much in the way of rain. Light winds will become south to southeasterly in the afternoon and evening, and the top will dip slightly to 22 degrees. From there, the weekend improves again. Saturday is shaping up as a bright and sunny autumn day, with a low of 11 and a top of 25 degrees. Easterly winds will turn north to northeasterly during the morning, helping temperatures lift nicely.
Sunday remains warm with a top of 25, though conditions become a little less certain. It will be partly cloudy with a slight chance of a shower, and winds are expected to swing from north to northeasterly before shifting south to southwesterly during the day. That change carries into Monday, when Adelaide will stay partly cloudy with a cooler top of 22 degrees. Southeasterly winds will turn southerly through the day, rounding out a week that never looks especially wild, but does bring a few noticeable wind shifts and cooler starts.
For Adelaide waters, conditions are also relatively calm through the end of the working week. Seas are expected to remain below 1 metre, with light winds today and Wednesday, a wind change on Thursday, and slightly fresher south to southeasterlies on Friday afternoon. That should mean generally manageable conditions for boaties, though it’s still worth keeping an eye on the timing of afternoon wind shifts.
Across South Australia more broadly, the picture is a little more varied. A high pressure system is keeping much of the state settled, while a couple of cold fronts brush the far southeast today and again on Thursday. That means the north will stay mostly sunny, while southern agricultural areas and southern coasts are more likely to see isolated light showers across the next few days.
Morning fog patches are also expected about the agricultural area on Tuesday and Wednesday. Rainfall totals are generally modest, with less than 2 mm expected across the southern agricultural area, increasing to 2 to 5 mm around southern coasts, ranges and the Lower South East district. Isolated falls of 5 to 10 mm are possible in the Lower South East.
The bigger safety concern remains in the state’s inland river systems, where flood impacts continue despite the mostly quiet weather elsewhere. Elevated river levels are continuing along the Warburton River at Poothapootha Waterhole, while elevated creek levels are also continuing along the lower Cooper Creek around Innamincka. With more floodwater still moving in from Queensland, some remote roads and crossings remain affected, and travel conditions may worsen in parts of the far northeast.
Happy Tuesday!
