Tyson Fury and Arslanbek Makhmudov have both received immediate boxing suspensions from the British Boxing Board of Control (BBBoC) following their heavyweight clash at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Saturday evening.
The 37-year-old Fury secured a comfortable unanimous decision victory over his 36-year-old Russian opponent.
It marked his return to competitive action after a 16-month absence from the ring.
The bout, broadcast on Netflix, saw Fury go the full distance.
He then immediately turned his attention to domestic rival Anthony Joshua, who was seated ringside.
Fury’s previous two outings had ended in defeat to undisputed heavyweight champion Oleksandr Usyk, representing the only professional losses on his record.
The suspension is not a disciplinary measure but rather a standard regulatory requirement that applies to all boxers operating under BBBoC jurisdiction.
According to Section 5.4(a) of Regulation 5 in the governing body’s rulebook: “No Boxer shall box in a contest within six clear days from the date of his last contest.”

The regulations do permit exceptions in specific circumstances, with the Board or Area Council able to waive the restriction when a late substitute is needed, provided the boxer won their previous fight within the opening two rounds.
Additionally, the rules prohibit any fighter from participating in more than one contest on the same day.
Immediately after his victory, Fury issued a direct challenge to Joshua in front of the crowd, demanding to know whether his British rival would accept a fight.
Joshua’s initial response was measured, dismissing Fury as a “clout chaser”.

He said: “You aren’t going to tell me what to do – I’ve been chasing you for 10 years.”
The 36-year-old also referenced personal difficulties when speaking to Netflix.
He explained: “I was just in a serious incident, maybe four months ago. So I really need to check out what’s going on in my return to the ring.”
He insisted he was not avoiding anyone, adding: “There’s real stuff happening in my life that I’ve got to attend to. Once I’m 100 per cent, I’ll be ready.”

Despite his cautious public stance, Joshua subsequently indicated he was willing to face Fury, declaring his intention to “break Fury’s jaw”.
Fury, meanwhile, revealed he had already committed to a three-fight deal several months prior, expressing hope that a showdown with Joshua would be included in that arrangement.
The Mancunian also addressed Joshua’s personal struggles with empathy, referencing his own mental health battles: “God knows I’ve had problems myself. I’ve attempted to kill myself before. So I’ve been through it.
“It is what it is. Let’s get the fight on or let’s not.”
