Motorbike rider killed in collision involving several vehicles on Perth’s Tonkin Highway

A motorbike rider has been killed in a multi-vehicle smash that closed a busy highway for hours on Monday.

The 58-year-old male rider was critically injured in the crash involving four other vehicles as they travelled in the southbound lanes of Tonkin Hwy, in Baywater, Perth just after 5.30am.

He died from his injuries at the crash scene, WA Police said.

The devastating crash near Great Eastern Hwy closed Tonkin Hwy while emergency services were on site, before morning commuters were directed along on and off-ramps.

The crash scene was cleared about 11am but even then southbound traffic was banked up more than more than 3.5 kms to Collier Rd.

Major Crash investigators have appealed for witnesses of the crash to come forward.
