Agra police have launched another major crackdown in the widely discussed religious conversion syndicate case, registering a fresh case against Dawood Ahmed for allegedly funding the network. Authorities have also pasted a property attachment notice at his residence in Bhopal, signalling the start of legal proceedings to seize his assets.
The case first came to light in July 2025 after two minor sisters went missing from Agra’s Sadar area. During the investigation, police discovered that the girls had come in contact with an organised conversion racket. They were later rescued from Kolkata, leading to the exposure of a larger network.
So far, more than 14 accused have been arrested in connection with the case. Police identified Abdul Rahman as the alleged mastermind operating from Delhi, while his associate Ayesha was reportedly managing parts of the network from Goa.
During police remand, the accused revealed that the syndicate was receiving financial support from abroad. Funds were allegedly routed from countries including Canada and the UAE. Investigators found that Dawood Ahmed, originally a resident of Bhopal and currently based in Canada, played a key role in channelling these funds.
Police teams conducted raids in Bhopal to apprehend him, but he remains absconding. Following his failure to appear in court despite summons, authorities have intensified action. A notice for property attachment has been affixed at his Bhopal residence, and further steps to seize his assets are expected soon.
Additionally, a new case has been registered against Dawood Ahmed at Sadar Bazar police station under Section 209 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
During the course of the investigation, police also rescued several girls from the alleged syndicate. Officials say efforts are ongoing to dismantle the entire network and further arrests and actions are likely in the coming days.
