Former Indian Cricketer Reacts to Usman Tariq’s Bowling Action in PSL 11

Former Indian spinner Ravichandran Ashwin has weighed in on the controversy surrounding Usman Tariq’s bowling action during a Pakistan Super League (PSL 11) match between Quetta Gladiators and Rawalpindi, played at National Bank Stadium.

Ashwin shared his views on social media platform X, addressing the confusion surrounding Tariq’s unconventional bowling action. While supporting the spinner, he also acknowledged the concerns raised during the incident.

“Mitchell is right, so is Tariq. The timing of the pause should be timed to see if he delays it ball to ball,” Ashwin wrote.

The situation unfolded during the ninth over of the opposition’s chase, with Tariq at the bowling crease. His action, which includes a noticeable brief pause within his delivery stride, left New Zealand batter Daryl Mitchell visibly confused.

On two occasions in the same over, Mitchell stepped away from the crease, struggling to adjust to the spinner’s rhythm. The umpire stepped in and spoke with the batter to clarify the situation.

Speaking during the PSL’s Pitch Side segment, Usman Tariq described the on-field exchange, stating that Mitchell stepped away after noticing a pause in his action. He added that although he initially indicated the pause could be repeated, officials later clarified that repeated pauses are not permitted, while his current action remains within the laws.
