Moaaz Mohamed makes UAE boxing history

Moaaz Wael Mohamed is set to become the first Emirati boxer to compete at the Youth Olympic Games when he represents the UAE in Dakar later this year.

The teenager has been selected in the 70kg division, the UAE Boxing Federation said on Friday.

His inclusion is a first for the country in boxing at an Olympic event, and another marker of the sport’s growth in the UAE.

Anas Nasser Al Otaiba, president of the UAE Boxing Federation, said the selection was a significant moment for the national programme.

“Moaaz’s place at Dakar 2026 reflected the progress made by boxing in the UAE, as well as the federation’s work to develop athletes capable of competing on the international stage.”

The Youth Olympic Games are regarded as one of the leading events for emerging athletes. For the UAE, Moaaz’s selection means the country will have boxing representation at that level for the first time.
