Bill Bailey is heading back to Adelaide this October, bringing his brand-new live show Vaudevillean to Thebarton Theatre for one night only.
Set for Tuesday, October 6, the Adelaide date forms part of the award-winning UK comedian, musician and actor’s new Australian tour, which follows his sold-out 2023 run.
The new show taps into the rich spirit of vaudeville, the grand era of live entertainment that came before streaming, television, cinema and even radio. Long before modern screens took over, vaudeville was where audiences gathered for comedy, music and a curious mix of acts designed to entertain, surprise and delight.
Now, Bill Bailey is reviving that sense of spectacle with a performance that promises inventive comedy, dazzling music and the kind of joyful escapism that has made him one of the most distinctive live performers working today.
A master of musical comedy and surreal wit, Bailey has built a global following through a career that stretches across television, film, books, music and the stage. He’s known to many for his appearances on Never Mind the Buzzcocks, QI, Black Books and In the Long Run, while his work beyond television has seen him voice the animated feature Dragonkeeper, write the best-selling Bill Bailey’s Remarkable Guide to Happiness, and take out the 2020 series of Strictly Come Dancing.
But it’s on stage where Bailey has long been in his element.
Across the USA, Europe, Asia, Australia and New Zealand, he has toured acclaimed live shows including Part Troll, Tinselworm, Qualmpeddler, Limboland and Thoughtifier, earning a reputation for performances that blend brilliant musicianship with a wildly original comic mind.
Vaudevillean looks set to continue that tradition, drawing on the golden age of variety entertainment while filtering it through Bailey’s unmistakable style. For Adelaide audiences, that means an evening where sharp comedy, musical flair and eccentric imagination collide in one of the city’s most beloved live venues.
The Adelaide performance sits among a national run spanning Launceston, Hobart, Brisbane, Toowoomba, the Gold Coast, Caloundra, Newcastle, Wollongong, Sydney, Rooty Hill, Canberra, Perth, Bunbury, Bendigo, Geelong and Melbourne.
For fans of clever comedy, musical brilliance and a performer who has made unpredictability into an art form, this one is likely to move quickly.
