Sevilla footballers have been subjected to death threats and violent confrontations with supporters following their damaging 1-0 defeat to Real Oviedo on Sunday.
The loss to the bottom-placed side has intensified the crisis engulfing the Spanish club, who now find themselves perilously positioned in 17th place in LaLiga.
Angry fans accosted players at San Pablo airport immediately after the match, with the situation escalating further when masked ultras descended on the club’s training facilities.
Police were forced to intervene to shield the squad from the hostile supporters.
Centre-back Kike Sillas issued an apology to travelling fans in the aftermath of the defeat.
According to Spanish publication Marca, supporters waiting at the airport hurled abuse at the returning squad, screaming for them to leave the club.
The vitriol extended beyond the playing staff, with threats directed specifically at club president Jose María del Nido Carrasco.

Fans were heard shouting: “Junior, die. Show your face, coward” at the president, while players faced chants of “Out, go away. Sons of b****es, out.”
The ugly scenes marked a dramatic low point for a club accustomed to challenging at the summit of Spanish football and competing in European competition.
The confrontation intensified when hooded ultras subsequently arrived at the training ground, forcing Sevilla to call for police assistance.

Officers reportedly established a protective barrier around the squad to prevent any physical altercation with the masked supporters.
The club’s predicament in the standings makes the situation all the more desperate, with Sevilla sitting just two points clear of Elche, who occupy the final relegation berth.
With only eight fixtures remaining in the campaign, the six-time Europa League winners face a genuine battle to preserve their top-flight status.
Real Oviedo, despite being rooted to the foot of the table with merely five victories from 30 matches, proved too strong.

The defender urged unity, adding: “We have to get through this together.

“We want to tell them that we’re not going to give up until the next home game.”
