Multan Sultans captain Ashton Turner reflected on missed opportunities after his side suffered a 20-run defeat to defending champions Lahore Qalandars in a rain-affected Pakistan Super League (PSL) 11 match at Gaddafi Stadium.
The 2021 champions, Multan Sultans, had entered the contest on a two-match winning streak but were handed their first loss of the tournament, dropping below the Qalandars in the standings.
The match was shortened to 13 overs per side after a two-hour rain delay. Turner won the toss and opted to field first, a decision that proved costly as the Qalandars’ top order took full advantage and posted a strong total of 185-5.
A key factor in the defeat was Multan’s lack of discipline with the ball. The Sultans conceded 23 extra runs, including 14 wides, two no-balls, three leg byes, and four byes, which ultimately made the difference in the final result.
“We weren’t at our absolute best in the first half of the game. Fortunate thing was that we kept fighting,” Turner said after the match.
He emphasized that controllable mistakes, particularly no-balls and wides, hurt the team’s chances and said they need to tidy that up.
Despite the setback, Turner remained calm about the outcome, stressing that the loss should serve as a learning moment rather than a major concern.
“It’s not the end of the world when you lose a game. Need to have a good hard look at ourselves. Need to find a way to restrict opposition sides,” he concluded.
