Karisma Kapoor’s bottle green kurta set draws on antique gold dori work

For a recent appearance, Karisma Kapoor chose an emerald green kurta set by Jigar Mali that placed craft at the centre. Styled by Esha Amin Pradhan, the look brought together Chanderi silk, antique gold embroidery and emerald-set jewellery in a combination that felt formal, familiar and very much in step with Kapoor’s long-standing taste for traditional occasionwear.

The kurta followed a classic A-line silhouette with full sleeves and its neckline showcased a considered blend of V and square design. It leaned decisively on heritage crafts, with its intricate surface work featuring antique gold dori work and gold embroidery. Dori, the traditional embellishment technique that uses cord or thick thread, creates raised, textured patterns on the fabric. On this look, the dori work interspersed with hand embroidery, lent an almost three-dimensional effect of florals and paisley motifs. Her set was paired with an organza dupatta, which introduced a sheer, billowing counterpoint to the rich look. The dupatta and the palazzo, too, were elevated with the same surface ornamentation as the kurta.

Kapoor paired the set with a statement gulband choker in antique gold, set with emerald drops from Kalyan Jewellers. Matching earrings followed the same design. Her makeup stayed within a warm palette, with contoured skin, blush, copper-toned eyeshadow, mascara and a nude lip. Her hair was styled in a sleek braided bun, while gold juttis from Fizzy Goblet sat in step with the rest of the look.

Chanderi silk and organza, both prized for their airy finish, make Kapoor’s kurta set a strong choice for summer celebrations. The bottle green colour also gives it flexibility, carrying easily from a daytime function to an evening gathering.
