UMass women’s lacrosse alumni drafted in the WLL supplemental draft – Massachusetts Daily Collegian

Former Massachusetts women’s lacrosse players Jordan Dean and Amy Moreau were drafted following the Women’s Lacrosse League Supplemental Draft on Wednesday, March 25.

Dean was selected No. 11 in the draft by the California Palms in this year’s draft after she graduated from the Minutewomen’s lacrosse program in 2025

The Ontario native played a critical role in the team, acting as the go-to draw person during her four seasons with UMass. Over her career, Dean won over 660 draws in 73 game appearances and set the NCAA Division I single-season record in 2024 with 261 wins.

“[The draw is] a very unique, very high-pressure situation,” head coach Jana Drummond said. “The draw, if you win or lose it, it’s all on you. I think for [Dean], she handled that so well … It’s really hard to win a lot of draws, but to do that consistently while there’s a bigger and bigger target on you while you’re on the national level is very impressive from [Dean].”

Dean’s expertise in the draw circle, as well as her role as a captain allowed her to pass along some skills and advantages to Katie Peterson, a current junior on the Minutewomen squad. The desire to beat Dean at the draw pushed Peterson to work outside of practices to improve, contributing to her success this season at the same face-off position.

Outside of the face-off, the former captain found herself tallying five goals and eight assists. Dean was asked to step up defensively later in her career, contributing 47 ground balls and 28 caused turnovers.

“Her ability to play through an injury and adversity was just a testament to her competitive level, and also to her leadership role for this program,” Drummond said. “As a two-time captain, she was just all about the team, and whatever she needed to do is what she would do.”

In 2026, Dean was named an assistant coach for the Army West Point women’s lacrosse program, coaching the team to a 9-2 winning record in the Patriot League.

Moreau was selected No.15 in the draft, joining the Boston Guard as a midfielder for their upcoming season. The Saratoga Springs, New York native appeared in 79 games over her five seasons with UMass, starting in 71 of those games.

Moreau tallied 55 goals and 21 assists over her five seasons, averaging just under a point per game over her time with the Minutewomen.

As a defensive midfielder, Moreau contributed 100 ground ball recoveries and 74 caused turnovers, setting the team’s record of 26 turnovers in her senior season.

“Her knowledge of the game was so helpful for this program,” Drummond said. “You know, she might have not had crazy stats, but without [Moreau], this team and program wouldn’t have been as successful … She was just so lethal at all ends of the field.”

Moreau served as a captain in her last two seasons with UMass and was named the Atlantic 10 midfielder of the year in her graduate season. In 2021, she also made her first appearance with the USA Lacrosse National Team Development Program and is now a tryout evaluator.

“If you asked [Moreau] to do it, she would figure out every way to make it perfect,” Drummond said. “She was so dedicated to this program, so dedicated to making herself better for everyone else to get better.”

Following the midfielder’s departure from the Minutewomen in 2023, Moreau was named as an assistant coach for the Davidson College lacrosse program. In 2025, she was hired at Penn State, where she served as the assistant coach before being drafted on Wednesday.
