CASTING | Home cooks wanted for new Aussie food series

That one dish everyone asks you to bring could be headed for primetime, with a new Australian cooking series now casting home cooks across the country.

Producer i8 Studio is behind the new format, searching for everyday Australians with recipes that carry meaning, memory and serious flavour.

While a broadcaster has yet to be announced, the series shifts the focus away from professional kitchens to spotlight real people and the dishes that define them.

The callout is simple. No chef experience required, just a recipe that brings people together and a story worth sharing. From long held family classics to modern crowd favourites, the series leans into food as a reflection of identity and connection.

According to the casting brief, the aim is to uncover recipes that resonate beyond the plate and could become Australia’s next favourite.

“If your recipe brings people together, tells a story, or simply tastes incredible, this is your chance to share it with the nation.”

Applicants must be aged 18 or over and legally able to live and work in Australia, with filming expected to take place over a four week period between mid July and mid August, depending on how far contestants progress.

It continues a growing slate of unscripted formats for i8 Studio, following projects including Night at the Museum for ABC and food led titles like Shane Delia’s Malta and Adam and Poh’s Great Australian Bites for SBS.

Applications are now open, with hopefuls invited to submit their signature dish and the story behind it via the production’s casting team.
