Delhi Capitals recovered from 26 for 4 to beat Lucknow Super Giants by six wickets in Lucknow, with Sameer Rizvi and Tristan Stubbs turning a shaky chase into a statement win.
Delhi Capitals pulled off a superb recovery to defeat Lucknow Super Giants by six wickets in the fifth match of IPL 2026 at the Ekana Stadium in Lucknow on Wednesday, April 1. Chasing 142, Delhi looked in serious trouble early on before Sameer Rizvi and Tristan Stubbs settled the innings and guided their side home in 17.1 overs.
Lucknow Super Giants were bowled out for 141 in 18.4 overs after choosing to bat. Mitchell Marsh top-scored with 35 off 28 balls, while Abdul Samad added 36 from 25 and Shahbaz Ahmed remained unbeaten on 15. The innings never truly gathered momentum after early wickets, with Delhi’s bowlers keeping Lucknow under pressure through the middle and back end.
Delhi’s bowling effort was sharp and disciplined. Lungi Ngidi and T Natarajan picked up three wickets each, Kuldeep Yadav claimed two, and Axar Patel chipped in with one as Lucknow’s batting line-up kept losing shape. Rishabh Pant managed only 7, Aiden Markram made 11, and Nicholas Pooran was dismissed for 8 in what became a frustrating night for the home side.
The chase began badly for Delhi. KL Rahul fell for a first-ball duck, Pathum Nissanka made 1, Nitish Rana was dismissed for 15, and Axar Patel also departed without scoring, leaving Delhi at 26 for 4. That could easily have been the match, but Rizvi held his nerve and produced the innings that changed everything.
Rizvi finished unbeaten on 70 from 47 balls, striking five fours and four sixes, while Stubbs stayed not out on 39 from 32. Their unbroken 119-run stand completely swung the contest, taking Delhi from collapse territory to a comfortable win. Prince Yadav took two wickets for Lucknow, while Mohammed Shami and Mohsin Khan picked up one each, but the breakthrough never came once Rizvi and Stubbs settled.
For Delhi Capitals, it was a win built on composure after chaos. For Lucknow Super Giants, it was the sort of defeat that will sting, especially after having Delhi four down so early in the chase. Rizvi’s knock ended up being the difference, and it gave Delhi one of the most composed recoveries of the young IPL 2026 season.
