Fakhar Zaman Appeals Against PSL 11 Ban Over Ball Tampering Allegations

Fakhar Zaman has formally challenged his two-match suspension in the ongoing Pakistan Super League (PSL 11), following a Level 3 breach of the tournament’s Code of Conduct related to alleged ball tampering.

The suspension was handed down by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) earlier this week after an incident during Lahore Qalandars clash against Karachi Kings at Gaddafi Stadium.

The controversy unfolded in the closing stages of the match when on-field umpires penalized Lahore Qalandars by awarding five runs to the opposition and ordered a ball change just before the final over of Karachi’s innings. The decision came after concerns were raised over the condition of the ball.

Match officials, including on-field umpires Shahid Saikat and Faisal Khan Aafreedi, along with TV umpire Asif Yaqoob and fourth umpire Tariq Rasheed, subsequently reported the matter, leading to formal charges against Fakhar.

The left-handed opener denied any wrongdoing and opted for a full disciplinary hearing under PSL regulations. The hearing was conducted by match referee Roshan Mahanama, who reviewed the evidence and granted Fakhar an opportunity to present his case.

Senior team representatives, including captain Shaheen Shah Afridi, team director Sameen Rana, and manager Farooq Anwar, were also present during the proceedings.

Fakhar was charged under Article 2.14, which deals with altering the condition of the ball in violation of playing conditions. A Level 3 offence carries a suspension ranging from one to two matches.

Sources have now confirmed that Fakhar has submitted an appeal to the PSL Technical Committee, seeking a review of the decision.

Lahore Qalandars are scheduled to take on Multan Sultans on April 3 at Gaddafi Stadium, followed by another key fixture against Islamabad United on April 9 at National Bank Stadium. His availability for these matches will now depend on the outcome of the appeal.
