Emerging fast bowler Ubaid Shah has expressed his excitement after joining Lahore Qalandars for the 2026 Pakistan Super League (PSL 11).
Speaking in an exclusive interview at the LCCA Ground, the right-arm pacer said he is enjoying his new environment after previous stints with Islamabad United and Multan Sultans.
“I have received a chance with Lahore Qalandars now,” Ubaid said. “I am getting a lot of support in this new team. Everyone, including Sameen Rana and Shaheen Afridi, is very supportive, and I am thoroughly enjoying it.”
The 20-year-old, who is also the younger brother of Naseem Shah, highlighted the strength of the Qalandars’ bowling lineup. He believes it is the best attack in the Pakistan Super League.
He pointed to the presence of Shaheen Afridi, Haris Rauf, and Mujeeb Ur Rahman as key reasons, noting that he is gaining valuable experience by learning from senior and experienced bowlers.
Ubaid added that bowling alongside such players is a significant milestone in his career and said he values the trust shown by captain Shaheen Afridi.
“Bowling alongside them is a huge deal for me. Captain Shaheen Afridi trusts me, and I have the honor of starting the bowling attack with him. If I learn from here, I will progress,” he said.
The young pacer emphasized that his main focus is on performing for his team rather than following a single role model. He said he observes any bowler who is performing well and tries to learn from them.
He also spoke about the mental demands of T20 cricket, describing it as a format driven by quick thinking and decision-making.
“T20 cricket is all about mindset. The quicker you can engage your brain, the more successful you will be. You need to understand what the batter is trying to do and bowl accordingly,” Ubaid said.
He added that modern batters have a wide range of shots, which makes it essential for bowlers to stay ahead mentally. He said he has worked hard to add variety to his bowling and is now seeing the results of that effort.
