According to officials, Anish had returned home about a month ago from Pune, where he worked at a tiles shop. He had reportedly left his house on Tuesday evening to return to Pune, but on Wednesday morning, he climbed the tower instead.
In a striking turn, the young man himself dialled emergency helpline 112 around 11 am, informing authorities of his actions. He reportedly told police that he would jump off the tower if his girlfriend was not brought to the spot.
Police said the young man is in a relationship with a woman from Deoria in Uttar Pradesh and had been pressuring his family over phone calls to arrange a meeting with her.
Following the alert, police and administrative officials rushed to the scene and began efforts to persuade him to come down safely. The situation led to hours of high drama, with locals gathering in large numbers.
Authorities said efforts were ongoing to safely bring him down, with family members also being involved in counselling him.
