The Lahore Electric Supply Company (LESCO) has announced a sharp increase in the price of single-phase AMI smart meters, raising concerns about additional financial pressure on consumers.
According to an official notification, the price of a single-phase smart AMI meter has been increased by approximately Rs. 6,000. The new price has been set at Rs. 17,700, compared to the earlier rate of Rs. 11,665.
Sources said that the Material Management department had issued a notification just days earlier, setting the price at Rs. 11,665. However, the Director of Customer Services later revised the rate and approved the new price of Rs. 17,700.
Previously, LESCO had set the price of a single-phase static meter at Rs. 4,000. With the introduction of smart meters, the overall increase in cost has now reached approximately Rs. 13,000.
According to the official document, the revised price includes 10 meters of cable. Any additional cable required beyond this limit will be charged separately.
In addition, consumers applying for a new electricity connection will be required to submit a security demand notice based on the approved load.
