One person was killed and another injured after a powerful explosion caused a building housing a matchbox manufacturing unit in Punjab’s Ludhiana district to collapse.
Authorities said two to three families were living in the building at the time of the incident.
According to officials, the blast occurred around 8.20 pm. The deceased has been identified as Kaif Shah, who succumbed to severe injuries. A 16-year-old girl sustained critical injuries and is currently undergoing treatment at a hospital.

Fire brigade and ambulance teams rushed to the spot soon after receiving the alert. Fire officer Rajinder said multiple teams, including personnel from Mullanpur, were deployed for rescue operations, even as local residents initiated efforts to pull people out of the debris.
“We arrived with our team, and a fire crew from Mullanpur also joined us. When we reached the site, villagers were already actively engaged in rescue operations,” the official added.
The injured were shifted to Ludhiana Civil Hospital for treatment.
Preliminary information suggests that firecrackers were being manufactured inside the premises at the time of the explosion. Further investigation into the cause of the blast is underway.
