PSL 2026 Ball-Tampering Row Puts Fakhar Zaman at Risk of One or Two-Match Ban

Lahore Qalandars batter Fakhar Zaman is facing a possible suspension after being charged with a Level 3 offence following a ball-tampering controversy during the closing stages of the PSL 2026 match against Karachi Kings.

Lahore Qalandars batter Fakhar Zaman could be banned for one or two matches after being charged with ball tampering during his side’s PSL 2026 defeat to Karachi Kings in Lahore. According to reports citing a Pakistan Cricket Board statement, the charge relates to a Level 3 offence, with the case now under review by match referee Roshan Mahanama.

The incident took place in the final over of Karachi’s chase, when the Kings needed 14 runs to win. Reuters reported that Fakhar was seen passing the ball with Haris Rauf after a brief discussion involving Lahore captain Shaheen Afridi. The umpires then checked the ball, ruled that its condition had been altered, handed Karachi five penalty runs and replaced the ball.

That decision proved crucial. Karachi Kings went on to beat Lahore Qalandars by four wickets with three balls remaining after chasing down the target in a tense finish. ESPNcricinfo’s score summary lists Karachi at 131 for 6 and Lahore at 128 for 9, underlining just how significant the penalty became in such a low-scoring contest.

Fakhar has denied the allegation during an initial disciplinary hearing, and Reuters reported that a second hearing is expected within 48 hours before a final decision is announced. If the charge is upheld, the punishment for a first offence could be a suspension of between one and two matches.

The controversy has quickly become one of the biggest talking points of the early PSL 2026 season, placing Lahore Qalandars under unwanted pressure just days into the tournament. With the verdict still pending, attention will now shift from the boundary line to the disciplinary room.
