Four new cast members have been announced for the upcoming From Overshadowed to Overpowered: Second Reincarnation of a Talentless Sage TV anime series during a stage event at AnimeJapan 2026. The anime is set to premiere in Japan in July 2026.
The new cast members (left to right below) consist of:
- • Hiroki Tochi as Ephtal (Sage/elderly)
- • Ayaka Fukuhara as Ephtal (young)
- • Emiri Kato as Iria
- • Daisuke Hirakawa as Fraser
They join a main voice cast that stars Shuichiro Umeda as Ephtal, Reo Osanai as Anastasia, and Haruka Shiraishi as Marin.
Hisashi Ishii (The Unaware Atelier Meister, I’m Quitting Heroing) is directing the anime series, with Hideki Furukawa (WATAMOTE) as character designer. EMT Squared is in charge of the animation production.
The anime is based on the manga adaptation of the isekai fantasy light novel series, which was drawn by Kentaro and began serialization on Square Enix’s Manga UP! Global service on September 26, 2019. Its Japanese title is Rakudai Kenja no Gakuin Musou ~Nidome no Tensei, S Rank Cheat Majutsushi Bokenroku. Eight volumes have been released as of June 2025 and it is also available to read in English on Comikey.
The light novel series (which has a slightly different title) is written by Arata Shiraishi and illustrated by Uodenim. It was published by Kadokawa Shoten from October 1, 2019 to March 1, 2022. Eight total volumes were released in Japan.

Despite his efforts, though, he discovers that he is absolutely talentless in magic, and breathed his last in anguish.
