11 shows like ‘The Madison’ to watch next

On paper, Taylor Sheridan’s latest drama series The Madison doesn’t sound like a breakout hit – it’s a show about grief and family, and it leans away from the spectacle of some of his other series. And yet, in just over a week, it’s quickly turned into one of 2026’s most talked-about dramas, pulling in around 8 million viewers in its first 10 days, making it one of Taylor Sheridan’s biggest launches yet.

From what we can dissect (having quickly tuned in to watch the show ourselves), a lot of that comes down to the mood: sweeping Montana landscapes, a wealthy family unraveling, and the effortlessly charismatic Michelle Pfeiffer anchoring it all. It’s also sitting around the 60-700% mark critically on Rotten Tomatoes, which feels right.

What’s interesting is how it’s found an audience right away. In a sea of high-stakes, fast-moving shows, The Madison works because it ventures in the uncomfortable stuff. And if you’ve already blitzed through the released episodes – and are looking for something new to add to your watch list that feels just the same – we’ve got you covered with a list of 11 shows like The Madison to watch next…

1. Yellowstone

Where to stream: Stan

Also from Taylor Sheridan, this is the closest match – wealthy family, Montana setting, power struggles, and emotional trauma layered into a modern Western. This neo-Western drama follows the powerful Dutton family as they fight to protect their Montana ranch from outside threats and internal fractures.

2. Big Sky

Where to stream: Disney+

This one leans more into crime, but the setting does a lot of the same heavy lifting – wide-open spaces with something unsettling underneath. It has that feeling that even in beautiful places, people are carrying a lot of darkness. Even though it was cancelled by ABC after only three seasons, don’t let that influence you into thinking it’s no good (it was a breakout when it premiered in November 2020)

3. Bloodline

Where to stream: Netflix

It’s not a Western at all, but the family drama is very similar – wealth, secrets, and old wounds that won’t stay buried. The tension builds slowly until you realise just how broken everyone actually is.

4. Succession

Where to stream: HBO Max

Swap Montana for corporate New York, and you’ve got another story about a powerful family falling apart from the inside. It’s sharper and more biting, but underneath all the sarcasm, it’s still about damage, grief, and legacy.

5. Ozark

Where to stream: Netflix

A family forced to relocate and reinvent themselves in a remote, scenic place – just with way higher stakes. It’s darker and more stressful, but that sense of “we have to survive this, no matter what” feels very similar.

6. Rectify

Where to stream: AMC+ (via their app, Prime Video Channels, or Apple TV Channels) and Stan

This is a much quieter, more reflective watch, but it really sits with grief in a way few shows do. It’s less about plot and more about how people live with what’s happened to them.

7. Outer Range

Where to stream: Prime Video

At first it feels like a straightforward ranch drama, but then it drifts into something stranger and more existential. It still keeps that core of family, land, and loss at the centre.

8. This Is Us

Where to stream: Disney+

If what you liked most is the emotional side of things, this one goes all in on that. It’s basically a deep dive into how families carry grief and love across years.

9. Virgin River

Where to stream: Netflix

This is the softer, more comforting version of the same idea – someone starting over in a beautiful, rural place after something painful. It leans more hopeful, but still touches on loss and healing.

10. Everwood

Where to stream: 9Now (free with ads).

The launching pad for Chris Pratt and Emily VanCamp, the 2000s drama series Everwood ran for four seasons and has had a recent resurgance in popularity since it’s arrival on Netflix earlier this year. It’s essentially about a city family that moves to a mountain town after a major loss, and everything kind of reshapes from there.

11. The Affair

Where to stream: Paramount+.

This one is more intimate and character-driven, but it’s all about how one emotional event ripples out and changes everyone. It’s messy, a bit raw, and very focused on perspective and memory.
