A father allegedly subjected his two minor daughters to brutal torture on suspicion of theft, leading to the death of one and leaving the other critically injured.
The accused, identified as Dadu Haibat Yamgar, tied the hands and legs of his daughters,10-year-old Sanika and 11-year-old Anuja, and hung them upside down from an iron angle in their house around 5 pm on Wednesday. The horrific ordeal ended only the next morning when their grandfather untied them around 6 am. By then, Sanika had died, while Anuja was found unconscious and seriously injured. She was rushed to hospital, where she later regained consciousness and narrated the incident to doctors, following which a police complaint was registered.
Sanika was declared dead on arrival at a private hospital.
Preliminary information suggests that neighbours had raised suspicions of theft against the girls, prompting the father to carry out the brutal punishment.
In a disturbing development, family members allegedly attempted to conduct Sanika’s last rites quietly to prevent the incident from coming to light. However, the truth emerged after Anuja’s statement.
Further, it has also emerged that the accused allegedly attacked the girls’ grandfather, who had freed them, with a sharp weapon and issued death threats.
Police have taken the accused father into custody and launched a detailed investigation into the case.
