Islamabad Makes Sports Activities Mandatory in Schools and Madrassas

The federal government has decided to make sports activities mandatory in public, private schools and madrassas in Islamabad as part of an important step to promote sports in educational institutions.

The decision was approved during a key meeting chaired by Federal Secretary for Inter-Provincial Coordination (IPC) Mohiuddin Wani.

During the meeting, officials approved the launch of the program titled “Khelega Islamabad, Taleem ke Sath, Maidan Mein Sath” under which regular sports activities will be organized for students in schools and madrassas.

It was decided in the meeting that School Sports Year will begin in Islamabad next month. The program will then officially start with the new academic year in the first week of April.

Federal Secretary IPC Mohiuddin Wani said students will be provided free sports facilities and quality coaching. He added that talented players will be identified at an early stage through a talent hunt program and given opportunities to progress further.

He said the program includes several sports, including cricket, hockey, football, judo, karate, athletics, and tennis, so that students can have broad opportunities to take part in different games.

According to the schedule, inter-school competitions will begin in September, while the Islamabad School Games will be held in January.

The purpose of the initiative is to encourage the younger generation to take part in healthy activities and to ensure the promotion of sports in the country.
