Adelaide is in for a cool end to the week before the city eases into a brighter, warmer run of autumn weather, with mostly dry days through the weekend and early next week before showers return around Wednesday.
Today, Adelaide will remain partly cloudy with a slight chance of a shower, mainly around the hills and southern suburbs. It’ll feel noticeably cool for late March, with a top of 20 degrees and southerly winds at 20 to 30 km/h keeping a fresh edge in the air. Tomorrow will stay cloudy, with another slight shower chance and temperatures lifting to 23 degrees after a morning low of 12. On Sunday, it will be mostly sunny with a milder top of 25 degrees. Light winds will become easterly into the evening, setting up a calmer finish to the weekend.
That warming trend continues on Monday, with mostly sunny conditions and a high of 27 degrees. Tuesday looks set to be the standout day of the week, with sunshine across Adelaide and temperatures climbing to 31 degrees under northeasterly winds. After the cool end to this week, it’s a quick jump back to warmer autumn conditions. A change is expected midweek, though, with Wednesday bringing partly cloudy skies and a medium chance of showers as winds turn westerly. The city is forecast to reach 25 degrees, with up to 1mm possible. By Thursday, Adelaide settles back into partly cloudy conditions with just a slight shower chance and a cooler maximum of 23 degrees as southerly winds return.
Adelaide Metropolitan Waters will be choppy today, with southerly winds at 15 to 20 knots and seas of 1 to 1.5 metres, before easing over the weekend. Saturday sees south to southeasterly winds of 10 to 15 knots and seas below 1 metre, while Sunday and Monday both look calmer again with variable winds and mostly sunny boating conditions.
Across South Australia, the pattern is being driven by a high-pressure system settling south of the state before shifting east over the weekend. That means much of SA will stay mostly dry through to Monday, although light showers remain possible about windward coasts and ranges, as well as the Lower South East on Saturday.
Temperatures are expected to stay below average in many districts through Friday and Saturday, especially in the northeast, where conditions will be well below average, before gradually recovering by Sunday and Monday. The western and southern agricultural areas are likely to become slightly warmer than average by Monday, while the northeast stays cooler. The Bureau says rainfall totals to the end of Monday will generally stay below 2mm south of around Coober Pedy, though 5 to 10mm is possible in parts of the Riverland, Mid North, Flinders and southern pastoral districts, with isolated falls of 10 to 25mm possible with thunderstorms.
Sheep graziers are warned that cold temperatures and southerly winds are expected on Friday. Areas likely to be affected include parts of the Flinders and North East Pastoral forecast districts. There is a risk of losses of lambs and sheep exposed to these conditions.
Happy Friday!
