The visual depicts three young people — siblings Akira (the boy) and Stella, along with their childhood friend Orga (the drill hair girl) — in front of Tokyo’s Keisei-Tateishi station. The everyday-like scene is juxtaposed by their slightly sci-fi-like clothing and the giant cluster of crystals behind the station.

Taro Iwasaki (One Week Friends, Sweetness and Lightning) is directing the anime with series composition from Yoriko Tomita (My Dress-Up Darling).

Mebius Dust is part of the Project ANIMA, a joint initiative by DeNA, Nippon Cultural Broadcasting, Sotsu, and MBS that focuses on the production of original TV anime whose premises are based on submitted novels, scripts, manga, and proposals. The story that inspired the anime was written by Hajime Shinagawa and was the winner of Project ANIMA’s kids/games category.

In the setting of Mebius Dust, a meteorite shower fell onto Earth in February 29, 2000, causing a new substance (the titular Mebius Dust) to appear and enter the atmosphere. The substance replaces limbs and eyes lost to the meteorites by way of “Rammus,” which can freely change form according to one’s will. Post-incident, Japan suffers from terrorism due to its worsened economic gap, and has an anti-RC special mobile unit and an associated school set up.

Previous Project ANIMA anime are 2021’s Sakugan (inspired by the Science Fiction/Robot category winner) and 2024’s The Stories of Girls Who Couldn’t Be Magicians (Isekai/Fantasy category). The submission and selection processes took place between February 2018 and March 2019.
