14 charred to death as bus collides with truck in Andhra, bursts into flames

Fourteen people lost their lives, and 23 sustained injuries as a private bus, carrying over 37 passengers, suffered a head-on collision with a gravel-loaded tipper truck in Andhra Pradesh’s Markapuram area on Thursday morning. The victims were burnt to death as the bus soon caught fire after the accident.

As preliminary information suggests, the bus was heading to Kaligiri in Nellore district from Jagityal in Telangana when the accident happened. The reason behind the collision is unknown yet and is being investigated.

The administration reacted quickly upon learning about the incident and dispatched several rescue teams. With the help of the locals, the rescue teams were successful in taking out several people who were trapped inside the bus after the fire broke out and sent them to a nearby hospital, where they are presently undergoing treatment.

“We have shifted 23 injured people to the hospital. Efforts are on to gather complete details of the incident,” Markapuram Superintendent of Police (SP) V Harshavardhan Raju told PTI.

The driver of the tripper lorry also sustained injuries and was moved to the hospital.

The rescue teams are also working to gather the data of the victims’ relatives. After ensuring all the details and completing all the procedures, the victims’ bodies will be handed over to the relatives.

CM NAIDU EXPRESSES GRIEF

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu expressed his grief and shock over the incident.

He spoke to officials to ensure adequate medical assistance for all the injured persons, as reported by PTI.

In addition, he directed officials to conduct a comprehensive enquiry into the cause of the accident and submit a report.
