SA Premier Peter Malinauskas has revealed a refreshed Cabinet, introducing new ministers and reshaping key portfolios as the Government moves into its second term.
The new-look Ministry brings three MPs into Cabinet for the first time, with Nadia Clancy, Michael Brown and Alice Rolls taking on senior roles.
Housing remains a central focus, with Nick Champion continuing to oversee Housing and Urban Development, Housing Infrastructure and Planning. The Government says maintaining momentum in housing supply and development will be critical to meeting demand.
A major change comes with Chris Picton leading a newly created economic “super portfolio”. His responsibilities will span State Development, Artificial Intelligence, the Digital Economy, Defence and Space Industries, alongside Veterans’ Affairs. The role is designed to coordinate investment and workforce planning as South Australia prepares for major projects, including submarine construction tied to AUKUS.
In health, Blair Boyer takes over as Minister for Health and Wellbeing, with a focus on expanding the system and addressing pressures linked to aged care.
Several ministers have taken on expanded or reshaped responsibilities. Katrine Hildyard will lead Human Services and Seniors and Ageing Well, while Joe Szakacs becomes Minister for Infrastructure and Transport, overseeing major projects including the South Road tunnels.
Tourism and environment portfolios have been combined under Emily Bourke, while Lucy Hood takes on Education, Training and Skills, along with new responsibilities covering autism and the City of Adelaide.
Among the new Cabinet members, Michael Brown will oversee Police, Correctional Services and Consumer and Business Affairs. Nadia Clancy has been appointed Minister for Small and Family Business and Multicultural Affairs. Alice Rolls takes on Child Protection and Domestic, Family and Sexual Violence, including oversight of reforms following the Royal Commission led by Natasha Stott Despoja.
Deputy Premier Kyam Maher adds Arts to his responsibilities, supported by Assistant Minister Sarah Andrews. Rhiannon Pearce and Tom Koutsantonis have also taken on additional portfolios.
Premier Peter Malinauskas says, “I am proud to lead a disciplined and united team, ready to get back to work delivering for the people of South Australia within just a few days of the election.”
“I am also proud to do so with a renewed cabinet that welcomes fresh faces, with new experiences and skills that reflect the depth of talent within the South Australian Labor Party.”
“It is a great pleasure to welcome Nadia Clancy, Michael Brown and Alice Rolls to Cabinet, and Sarah Andrews and Lawrence Ben to Assistant Minister roles.”
“South Australia stands on the cusp of significant economic opportunity, and we are determined to ensure that opportunity translates into secure, well-paid jobs and more housing for South Australians.”
“That is why I have established a new economic super-portfolio of State Development, uniting Industry, Trade and Investment, Innovation and Science, Workforce Planning, Defence and Space Industries, and Artificial Intelligence and the Digital Economy, sharpening our focus to attract investment, create jobs and drive economic growth.”
“As AUKUS gathers pace, a coordinated and strategic approach to these industries will be critical to maximising opportunities for local workers and businesses, and Minister Picton will be working closely with me as we drive this effort.”
“At the same time, the opportunities across our metals sector, from copper in the far north, to steel at Whyalla, to critical minerals at Port Pirie, will help underpin thousands of jobs and support regional communities.”
“Minister Boyer has delivered a significant reform agenda throughout his time in the Education portfolio and is well placed to take on the significant responsibility of continuing to build a bigger health system and tackling the federal aged care challenge.”
“We have no time to waste, we are focused on delivering for South Australians, and the work starts now.”
