C1 Championship finale to close Season 5 at Al Marmoom
The C1 Championship will hold its Season 5 finale at Al Marmoom Camel Race Track in Dubai on Sunday, March 29, with titles still to be decided in one of the UAE’s most distinctive sports.
The event starts at 4pm, with free general admission for spectators. Organisers say the finale will bring together riders, families and supporters for the last meeting of a season that has continued to grow in both size and reach.
all-female camel racing series
Founded by Linda Krockenberger through the Arabian Desert Camel Riding Centre, the C1 Championship began in 2021 as an all-female camel racing series. It has since expanded, while keeping its place within a sport closely tied to the UAE’s heritage. The series is sanctioned by Dubai Camel Racing Club and is described as the only independent multi-stage camel racing championship of its kind.
This season also introduced a boys’ category for riders aged 15 and over, widening the pathway into competition. According to organisers, the prize fund for the season is more than AED 80,000.
The closest contest going into the finale is in the women’s 1200m championship. Denmark’s Laura Jurs leads on 37 points, just one ahead of UAE rider Fatima Al Ameri on 36. Jordan’s Rawan Salah, the defending champion, remains in the hunt on 25.
Introduction of a boys aged 15+
In the boys’ standings, Rashid Abdullah Al Kaabi leads with 39 points. Ali Obaid Al Khatri is second on 26, with Sultan Al Ketbi third on 24.
While the series has drawn riders from a wide range of countries, there is strong local interest in the finale, with Emirati riders in contention and the event staged at one of the UAE’s best-known camel racing venues. The season has included competitors from across the Emirates as well as from Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Jordan, Qatar, Egypt and several European countries.
For spectators, the day is set up as a family event as much as a race meeting. Alongside the racing, there will be refreshments, complimentary luqaimat, an ice cream truck and a raffle. Viewing from the Big Bus platform is also available through advance booking, with tickets starting from AED 30.
The finale takes place at Al Marmoom Camel Race Track in Al Lisaili, with the first race due at about 4.45pm.
